Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR/CSI) & CDK
When a business is situated in a Historically Disadvantage Community, the line between corporate social responsibility, volunteerism, sound business practices, and profit margins, becomes extremely blurred.
The challenge for CDK has been to deal with this issue as and when it presented itself. The approach from CDK management has been that of a trial and error scenario, to ultimately establish how to separate these issues, to the mutual benefit of both the community that we serve, and the business imperatives of CDK, and its shareholders.
To this end CDK embarked on a 12-month strategically mutually beneficial partnership with the Harambe Community Development and Resource Centre (HCD&RC). The services offered by the Harambe project included a Job Placement Program that attempted to address the unemployment levels, not just of Reiger Park, but that of the entire Gauteng Province as well. After deliberations between both management teams of CDK and HCD&RC, it was decided that CDK would be commissioned to assist with this mammoth task of addressing poverty reduction, through this program, as part of CDK’s CSR / CSI program. This project was completed successfully and resulted in over 700 candidates placed in fulltime positions across South Africa.
